This is a post I’ve been wanting to make for quite a while now. I think I was saving it for a special occasion (what occasion, I have no idea) but just felt like today is the day to embarrass myself dreadfully.
These reviews are no longer on my Goodreads (thank GOD) but I did save them so I could write this post one day. I’m only going to do a few reviews but there are many more but I’ll save them for another post. Maybe this should be a series…
I was very young and stupid when I wrote these and actually only 12 years old. What I was thinking, I seriously don’t know. I wish I had an explanation for these but, I really don’t.
*the stuff in italics is my old review*
➼ Heartless – Marrissa Meyer
Okay, this was my first YA book I ever read and also the first review I ever wrote.
Wowowow… this book is sooo good and I love it!!
You can really tell that I was 12 when I wrote this…
It definitely pulls you in at the beginning and starts off with the main character baking which is a great way to make anyone want to read it. This book made me so hungry and it was definitely very descriptive, especially when it came to the times where Cath was baking.
Okay, this part is true. I definetly want to read a book if it has food in it.
I loved all the characters and I also loved the connections to the original Alice in Wonderland. Towards the end, the book got darker without you realizing it.
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE PART ARE YOU READY??!
At first, I thought about bumping the rating down by 0.1 (4.9 rating) because although it pulls you in at the beginning, it is slightly slow in the middle. Although I still gave it 5 stars because I still really enjoyed reading it and it definitely picked up towards the end.
Give that a second to sink in..
WHAT WAS I THINKING?? Oh yes, I definetly ‘bumping the rating down by 0.1’ and then just in case you couldn’t do the math, I let you know that 5 – 0.1 is 4.9. Wow. I honestly have no words for this.
What made me think that I had to mention that, someone please explain.
Overall, I really love this book and I definitely recommend it!
Oh wait… the ending
Just when you thought it was over.
I really don’t know how I feel about it because there are so many plot twists and my emotions are all over the place and so many unexpected things you should have seen them coming. I am actually really proud of myself for guessing something that is a big spoiler but this book just keeps you guessing.
My heart is so broken and amazed at everything right now though…
Okay, we made it through the first one. It’s probably just me but I feel so awkward reading these. I also will never get over the fact that I said I’d lower my rating by 0.1 stars. I mean, I do half stars but not a freaking tenth of a star!!
➼ The Selection – Kiera Cass
Let me just say that at the time, I actually enjoyed this book. Then I read more and got more educated and it now currently holds a 1-star rating. But anyway, bare in mind that this was when I was first getting into YA and also before I could tell the good from the…not so good.
I was surprised at how much I liked this book! At first I couldn’t get into it and I could easily put it down but as I read on, it kept getting better and better.
Yeah, I don’t remember ever feeling like that…
I’ve also heard a lot of mixed opinions about The Selection so I was slightly unsure at first, but I ended up really liking it and it was totally surprised!
Didn’t I literally just say that
I really like America Singer who narrates the book. She’s so cool and reminds me of Ginny Wesley.
HOLD UP SIS. GINNY WEASELY IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST LITERARY CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME AND 12 Y/O ME HAS THE AUDACITY TO COMPARE HER TO…AMERICA SINGER??!?!?
They literally both have red hair but the resemblance stops there.
Also ‘Wesley’ ???? You can tell I never even looked over this before I posted it.
I just love her personality… she’s just amazing! Although her name? Why? I mean I don’t like her name and is it a coincidence that she sings and her last name is Singer? Also, her knickname is Mer and is it pronounced Mer as mermaid or Mer as in America without the A and ica. Anyway, she’s still really cool…
I personally have a section of my heart which is my great pit of hatred for America Singer and I simply store all my anger there. So yeah, my opinions have changed.
and ‘knickname’?? that actually made me laugh so hard.
I also really liked the writing because even though it was slightly slow to get into, America’s narration didn’t make it boring.
I seem to remember the plot was as dull and lifeless as a loaf of stale bread.
Same with the plot, is was slightly slow but I wasn’t bored.
I can relate it to the Hunger Games so much because the castes are kind of (kind of) like factions and I think Aspen is like Gale. Like the Hunger Games, if you lost you went home, so basically enjoy the luxury of amazing food, clothes and rooms and it’s also lot of people fighting for one guy.
NO. 👏 SIS 👏 GET👏 YOUR 👏 REFERENCES 👏 STRAIGHT 👏 IF YOU LOST THE HUNGER GAMES THAT MEANS YOUR FREAKING DEAD. SINCE WHEN DID YOU GO HOME??!?!
I’m sorry but Aspen annoys me slightly because he’s stubborn and dumb. Not to be too harsh, he’s still pretty nice but definetly not my favourite character.
You can tell I was uncomfortable with roasting anyone at the time😂. I actually hated Aspen when I was reading it but didn’t want to say anything mean.
I also really like the relationship between America and Prince Maxon because once they get to know each other, they are so easy around each other. But when Prince Maxon calls people ‘my dear’ i just want to punch him. It anoys me sooooooo much!
ahhhh, there are so many things wrong with this paragraph. First of all can someone please tell me what “they are so easy around each other” means? Then I misspell yet another word and feel the need to add on an excessive amount of o’s to the word ‘so’ which only had one the last time I checked.
But the love triangle between America, Aspen and Prince Maxon was definetely one of the better ones I have read.
Just remember at this point in my life, the only other books that had actual ‘romance’ in them were The Hunger Games, Heartless, Tiny Pretty Things and Harry Potter. Saying it is one of the better love triangles I’ve read really doesn’t mean much.
I also still don’t know how to spell definetly.
➼ The Scorpio Races – Maggie Stiefvater
Okay, this review isn’t as bad as the other ones and it’s pretty quick which makes it less painful.
This book was really really good! The writing was just … I don’t have any words for how amazing it was and the character were all so lovable and beautiful.
At least I realised Maggie Stiefvater was an actual God from an early age.
At first I thought I was only going to give it five stars becuase although it was really nice and discriptive, my eyes kind of glazed over.
I have had multiple attempts at trying to understand what I was trying to say here. I think I meant to say four stars instead of five stars but we shall never truly know…
Spelling check: becuase and discriptive
Also what really frustated me was that through the amazingness of this book, I couldn’t properly get into it and I DON’T KNOW WHY!!?? But the last 100 pages were really good and made up for the rest of it.
Ah yes, ‘frustated’. One of my more common emotions
So basically this book is about an island with barbaric man eating horses and November cakes!! November cakes sound like absolute heaven.
I love how I switch from savage horses to November cakes in the same sentence
And then there’s Sean. I love Sean. I would read the whole book just for Sean. He is just so quiet and it’s so great. And I also love Pucks attitude.
This part just made me squirm. I guess I didn’t have the energy to elaborate on anything because this whole thing is so choppy
Although I wasn’t sure about this book in the beggining but I definetly still love it!
mmkay, I seriously needed Grammarly or something because I obviously have spelling issues.
I think that’s enough for today. As you can tell, I was a very awkward young 12-year-old child who didn’t know how to use words.
I’m quite glad that’s over because that was definetly a very…uncomfortable experience. Luckily my reviews have graduated from…that…to positively mediocre
